Facts: Cold temperatures can cause "cold stress" to the body (distress).
For example: Trees are bare and plant growth is dormant, during winter months. It is popular to COVER plants in the winter. Why? It is essential to cover plants during these temperatures, in order to preserve the growth pattern and cycle. If a plant is left uncovered in the winter, its leaves will wither. Similarly to Natural hair.
TIPS:
1. Use butters and thick oils that are emollients (lubricant, sealant)
For ex: Shea, Coconut Oil & Castor Oil.
2. CONDITION OFTEN due to the low moisture content.
3. Use conditioners that are humectant product.
These conditioners draw in moisture from the atmosphere/environment.
4. Wear protective styles 80-100% of the time during these months.
*The most weakest part of your hair are the tips/ends...thus they must be moisturized and tucked.
5. Wear beanies, hats and scarfs...these are protecting methods.
A protective style is a style that essentially protects ones' ends.
Natural Hair Styles : A Bun; Twists or Braids (if ends are tucked); wigs or weaves.
